There is a myth saying that there is no puja done to any god without worshipping the pratham deva ganesha, similarly in this temple lord Ganesha also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon stands first in front of lord Shiva.
Now coming to the main temple walking up the hill, we come across the Uma maheshwara swami temple which is conspicuous as it is in the form of a shiv ling.
This temple was built many years ago, they say that the shiv ling is outstanding as it was formed from the flow of the great holy river Ganga brought from the holy place Kashi.. It is said in our puranas that atma-linga was given to Ravana with a condition that wherever it was grounded... it would be rooted at that spot... Similarly the shiva-linga of Sri Umma maheshwara temple is brought from the rivers of Ganga by holy men in their hands without keeping it on the ground... They say lord Shiva is bholenath- the one who is easily impressed and pleased... so is the lord here in Sri Umma maheshwara temple.
